Painted on holidays with my nearest and dearest, Mr D'Arcy, who sat patiently for me while I painted him over 2 evenings. My aim was to make a representation of him, with his likeness, but I knew I needed to evoke the sense of strength that is his character. Inherently, I worked closely with the light and shadow on his face.Joe adores the ocean and so I used the blue and gold to incorporate his belonging to sand and surf.
